The story of this stylish refrigerator begins with Thom Vermon 's dream of furnishing his beach house in a vintage style. Modern stainless steel refrigerators weren't suitable, and they definitely didn't want a white cooler.
He was dissatisfied with the current trend of concealed refrigerators in kitchen cabinets. Therefore, Thom and Orion developed a refrigerator that attracted attention and visibly made a statement .
A steel body, chrome trim and the exceptional style of Big Chill make these devices incomparable on the market.

How it all began
As a child, Orion Creamer spent a lot of time with his family, but he always loved retro design . As he got older, he scoured junkyards and vintage shops for refrigerators from that era.
He began by removing the doors and attaching them to his wall as art installations. His passion for old-school style and his knowledge of product design therefore made him the ideal developer of a unique kitchen appliance that combines form and function.
Orion and his uncle discussed ideas over morning coffee and, as a first step, built a prototype on the porch of Thom's house in Boulder, CO.
They used a stamped metal body, a stainless steel cladding, and a swiveling handle. This created the vintage atmosphere.
Orion made its first sale in 2003 when a passerby saw the Big Chill in front of Thom's house. He declared it was the coolest thing he had ever seen. He went home, brought his checkbook, and then bought the refrigerator.
The next steps
Orion and Thom decided to put the retro refrigerator into production. It was a big risk to found a company based on such a uniquely designed product, but they didn't stop at just one design.
Orion curated a palette of vintage-inspired colors for the refrigerator, an innovative idea in an industrial landscape dominated by neutral tones and a then-current trend of hiding appliances behind cabinet-like doors.
He used memorable colors inspired by 1950s cars and kitchens, then lightened them to make them even bolder, making them part of the Original Size Retro style.
Orion designed the Big Chill refrigerator to make a statement. His idea was that others would also want to make a statement. He was right. The Big Chill was an instant hit.
But color and style weren't the only major decisions Big Chill had to make, as Orion wanted to keep a large portion of production close to home . That's why the Big Chill Original is still assembled in Boulder, Colorado, today.
"It was a decision that just felt right," said Orion.
