Properties and production of thermowood:

During thermowood treatment, the wood is heated to temperatures between 180 and 230° Celsius, excluding oxygen. This greatly reduces the wood's ability to absorb water, and wood-destroying fungi and bacteria lose their food source. This increases the durability of the wood. All wooden parts of the barrel sauna (except base feet, window and door frames, end boards, and terrace boards in the outdoor area) are delivered made of Nordic thermowood.

Thermo-wood treatment gives the wood a uniform, brown color that grays under UV radiation like all other woods. We therefore recommend treating the wood with a wood preservative glaze regardless.
