Properties and production of thermowood:

During thermowood treatment, the wood is heated to temperatures between 180 and 230° Celsius in the absence of oxygen. This significantly reduces the wood's ability to absorb water, and wood-destroying fungi and bacteria thus lose their food source. This increases the durability of the wood. All wooden parts of the barrel sauna (except sauna benches, backrests, floor grate, and stove guard) are delivered made of Nordic thermowood.

The thermowood treatment gives the wood a uniform, brown tone, which grays under UV radiation like all other woods. We therefore recommend treating the wood with a wood preservative stain anyway.
