Properties and Production of Thermo-wood:

During thermo-wood treatment, the wood is heated to temperatures between 180 and 230° Celsius, excluding oxygen. This significantly reduces the wood's ability to absorb water, and wood-destroying fungi and bacteria lose their food source. This increases the durability of the wood. All wooden parts of the barrel sauna (except for the feet, window and door frames, fascia boards, and outdoor decking boards) are supplied made of Nordic thermo-wood.

Thermo-wood treatment gives the wood a uniform, brown color, which, like all other woods, grays under UV radiation. We therefore recommend treating the wood with a wood preservative stain.
