Properties and production of thermowood:

During thermowood treatment, the wood is heated to temperatures between 180 and 230° Celsius in the absence of oxygen. This significantly reduces the wood's ability to absorb water, and wood-destroying fungi and bacteria thus lose their food source. This increases the durability of the wood. All wooden parts of the barrel sauna (except for the base feet, window and door frames, end boards, and terrace boards in the outdoor area) are delivered made of Nordic thermowood.

Thermowood treatment gives the wood a uniform, brown color, which, like all other woods, will gray under UV radiation. We therefore recommend treating the wood with a wood preservative glaze anyway.
