Properties and production of thermowood:

In thermowood treatment, wood is heated to temperatures between 180 and 230° Celsius, excluding oxygen. This greatly reduces the wood's ability to absorb water, and wood-destroying fungi and bacteria thus lose their food source. This increases the durability of the wood. All wooden parts of the barrel sauna (except for the feet, window and door frames, gables, and exterior decking boards) are supplied in Nordic thermowood.

The thermowood treatment gives the wood an even, brown color, which, like all other woods, greys under UV radiation. We therefore recommend treating the wood with a wood preservative glaze regardless.
