Properties and manufacturing of thermowood:

During thermowood treatment, wood is heated to temperatures between 180 and 230° Celsius, excluding oxygen. This significantly reduces the wood's ability to absorb water, thus depriving wood-destroying fungi and bacteria of their food source. This increases the wood's durability. All wooden parts of the barrel sauna (except for base feet, window and door frames, end boards, and outdoor decking boards) are supplied in Nordic thermowood.

The thermowood treatment gives the wood a uniform, brown color, which grays under UV radiation, like all other woods. We therefore recommend treating the wood with a wood preservative glaze anyway.
