Properties and production of thermowood:
During thermowood treatment, wood is heated to temperatures between 180 and 230° Celsius in the absence of oxygen. This greatly reduces the wood's ability to absorb water, and wood-decaying fungi and bacteria thus lose their food source. This increases the durability of the wood. All wooden parts of the barrel sauna (except for the base, window and door frames, end boards, and outdoor decking boards) are supplied as Nordic thermowood.

Thermo-wood treatment gives the wood an even, brown tone, which grays under UV radiation like all other woods. We therefore recommend treating the wood with a wood preservative stain nonetheless.
