Properties and Production of Thermowood:
In the thermowood treatment process, wood is heated to temperatures between 180 and 230° Celsius in the absence of oxygen. This significantly reduces the wood's ability to absorb water, thus depriving wood-degrading fungi and bacteria of their food source, which increases the wood's durability. All wood parts of the barrel sauna (except sauna benches, backrests, floor grate, and stove guard) are supplied in Nordic thermowood.
