Properties and production of thermally modified wood:
During thermal wood treatment, the wood is heated to temperatures between 180 and 230° Celsius, excluding oxygen. This significantly reduces the wood's ability to absorb water, and wood-destroying fungi and bacteria thus lose their food source. This increases the durability of the wood. All wooden parts of the barrel sauna (except for feet, window and door frames, end boards, and exterior deck boards) are supplied made of Nordic thermally modified wood.

Thermal wood treatment gives the wood a uniform, brown tone, which, like all other woods, grays under UV radiation. We therefore recommend treating the wood with a wood preservative glaze.
