Properties and manufacturing of thermowood:

During thermowood treatment, the wood is heated to temperatures between 180 and 230° Celsius, excluding oxygen. This significantly reduces the wood's ability to absorb water, and wood-destroying fungi and bacteria thus lose their food source. This increases the durability of the wood. All wooden parts of the barrel sauna (except the base feet, window and door frames, gables, and terrace boards in the outdoor area) are supplied from Nordic thermowood.

The thermowood treatment gives the wood a uniform, brown tone, which, like all other woods, grays under UV radiation. We therefore recommend treating the wood with a wood preservative glaze anyway.
