Information on ThermoWood treatment:
By slowly heating the wood for several hours from 160° C to max. 230° C in an oxygen-poor atmosphere, the components of the wood are transformed. This change results in several advantages for our sauna houses made of thermally treated wood:
- The natural resistance to fungal attack and animal pests increases because certain wood components that microorganisms feed on are significantly broken down by the heating process.
- The water absorption capacity of the wood is reduced. The swelling, cracking or shrinking of the wood decreases. The maintenance effort for our Thermo sauna houses is reduced.
- The moisture trapped in the wood evaporates due to the hours of heating.
- Pine and spruce are thus weather-resistant: instead of (untreated) a few months, they now last for years.
- Through the transformation process, the wood acquires a smoky smell that diminishes over time. The color of the treated wood is dark to coffee brown.
Important care instructions for ThermoWood:
It is advantageous to apply a protective coating to the wood at regular intervals against bluestain and fungi. Those who love the gray color of the wood caused by weathering can forgo further care treatments for thermally treated wood. Windows, doors, panels and sauna benches are not made of ThermoWood.
